Mike Bloomgren enters his first season as an assistant<br />

coach at Delta State University. No stranger <strong>to</strong> high-powered<br />

offenses, Bloomgren will serve as <strong>the</strong> architect of <strong>the</strong> Delta<br />

State attack while coaching <strong>the</strong> offensive line.<br />

The Tallahassee, Fla. native comes <strong>to</strong> DSU after a highly<br />

successful stint (2002-2004) as <strong>the</strong> co-offensive coordina<strong>to</strong>r at<br />

Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. While at CC, <strong>the</strong> Indians<br />

claimed <strong>the</strong> <strong>South</strong> Athletic <strong>Conference</strong> title in 2003 <strong>and</strong> made a<br />

trip <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> NCAA Division II playoffs in 2002 <strong>and</strong> 2004.<br />

With Bloomgren on-board, <strong>the</strong> Indians averaged 36.6 points<br />

<strong>and</strong> 420.5 yards per game in 2004. His blocking schemes<br />

were also known for <strong>the</strong>ir effectiveness, as <strong>the</strong> Indians allowed<br />

only 11 sacks in 404 pass attempts. His offenses averaged<br />

4.7 yards per rush <strong>and</strong> converted on 48 percent of <strong>the</strong>ir third<br />

down conversions. Bloomgren coached two-time All-American<br />

<strong>and</strong> All-SAC offensive tackle Daniel Lynch, All-American Cole<br />

Beane <strong>and</strong> All-SAC Bucky Yates in 2004. Lynch <strong>and</strong> Beane<br />

also particpated in <strong>the</strong> Cactus Bowl.<br />

Prior <strong>to</strong> his stint at Catawba, Bloomgren spent three<br />

seasons as a graduate assistant at <strong>the</strong> University of Alabama.<br />

In 1999 <strong>and</strong> <strong>2000</strong>, Bloomgren worked as <strong>the</strong> defensive<br />

graduate assistant for head coach Mike Dubose. He primarily<br />

worked with <strong>the</strong> defensive line <strong>and</strong> helped in video scouting.<br />

During <strong>the</strong> 1999 season Alabama claimed <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>astern<br />

<strong>Conference</strong> Championship. In 2001, Bloomgren had <strong>the</strong><br />

opportunity <strong>to</strong> move <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> offensive side of <strong>the</strong> ball <strong>and</strong> work<br />

with <strong>the</strong> offensive line under Dennis Franchione. He was<br />

responsible for coaching <strong>the</strong> deep snappers <strong>and</strong> helped with <strong>the</strong><br />

scout team defense. While at Alabama, Bloomgren worked with<br />

Freshmen All-Amercans Wesley Britt <strong>and</strong> Justin Smiley.<br />

Before moving <strong>to</strong> Tuscaloosa, Bloomgren spent two years as<br />

an undergraduate assistant on Bobby Bowden’s staff at Florida<br />

State University. Bloomgren worked with <strong>the</strong> Seminole<br />

linebacking corp while maintaining a 3.7 GPA in Sports<br />

Management. During his tenure, FSU claimed two Atlantic<br />

Coast <strong>Conference</strong> titles.<br />

Bloomgren graduated from Florida State University magna<br />

cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports<br />

Management in 1999. He received a Master’s degree in<br />

Higher Education Administration from <strong>the</strong> University of Alabama<br />

in 2001. He has been a long-time supporter <strong>and</strong><br />

member of <strong>the</strong> Fellowship of Christian Athletes.<br />

The Florida High grad played at Culver-S<strong>to</strong>ck<strong>to</strong>n College in<br />

Missouri, where he started as a freshman at tight end.<br />

Bloomgren transferred <strong>to</strong> Florida State <strong>and</strong> a coaching career<br />

was born.<br />

Bloomgren was married <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> former Lara Parr on June 23,<br />

2001. Lara is a marketing specialist for Sta-Home Health<br />

Care <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> couple reside in Clevel<strong>and</strong> with <strong>the</strong>ir dog, Dexler.<br />
