projections become separated from the margin and form islands (irregular)<br />

in the window; inner margins straight or toothed; the texture of the mottled<br />

part of the lobe is very fine, giving the whole window a fine misty appearance<br />

like fine cobweb; number of fine white dots in the ‘window. Flowers white.<br />

Fig. 69 is a photo of the three plants sent by N. E. Brown as being<br />

plants of the original L. marmorata as described by him.<br />

<strong>Lithops</strong> marmorata. (Plaat 25.) Plante enkel of vorm klompe van 2 of meer;<br />

boonste vlak effens konveks; kante liggroengeel gekleurd, met die boonste<br />

rand effens pers; venster groot, grysgroen gespikkeld met liggrys of roomag<br />

tig grys; buitenste soom baie onreëlmatig, bestaande uit ’n aantal gekartelde,<br />

fyn projeksies in die venster in, ander weer kort en tandvormig; hierdie pro<br />

jeksies raak los van die soom en vorm onreëlmatige eilande in die venster; die<br />

bin neste soom reguit en gespikkeld; die tekstuur van die gespikkelde deel van<br />

die venster is baie fyn, en dit gee die venster ’n delikate mistige voorkome<br />

SOOS die van fyn spinnerak, ’n aantal wit kolle in die venster. Blomme wit.<br />
