Chapter 3: Implementer Administration
User Profile Object Code Overrides
80
Users have access to all object codes defined to an environment, as well as rights to promote
any type of object. This is an optional task that allows you to place restrictions on a user’s
access rights. For example, you may want to restrict the PF object code, as, typically, only a
Database Administrator (DBA) has authority to promote physical files. To limit the number
of users who can act as a DBA, you can disallow a user’s access to the PF object code.
To change object code overrides for a user
1 From the Work with User Profiles panel, type 8=Object code overrides next to the user
profile and press ENTER. The Change User Profile - Object Codes panel displays.
2 In the Allow Code field, type N for each object code you do not want this user to access,
and press ENTER. The Work with User Profiles panel displays.
User Profile Environment Capabilities
Environment capabilities allow you to tailor each user’s authorities to specific environments.
For example, you can enable multiple users to have move capabilities for an environment, or
enable select users to perform emergency functions for an environment.
You typically perform this task when you initially install and configure Implementer, after
setting up the environment (not when you set up the user profile). The task is mentioned here
within the Work with Users topic because you need to complete it after you create an
environment. You also perform this task for a new user for existing environments. The
functionality and setup are the same in both Work with Users and Work with Environments.
Implementer provides two options for defining user environment capabilities:
The Implementer Menu options provide standard iSeries entry screens. For details on
this option and the environment capabilities task, see “Environments and User
Capabilities” on page 109.
The Capability Wizard is a graphical user interface (GUI) tool designed to minimize the
maintenance of user authorities in Implementer. Administrators or anyone responsible
for working with user authorities in Implementer can benefit from using this time saving
tool. You must add new users through the Implementer Menu option. Once added, you
can maintain the profiles with the Capability Wizard. The major advantage to using the
Capability Wizard over the Work with Users function is that it allows you to set
capabilities for multiple users and environments concurrently. For details, see “User
Capability Wizard” on page 385.
