4 Promote and distribute to remote production.
Multi-Platform Development and Deployment Scenarios
Developer creates the promotion request targeting by system/environment. In this
case, you would probably distribute only the source.
Administrator compiles the members/objects into work libraries on the remote
system.
Administrator moves the members/objects into the remote production
environments.
Setup Tasks
The setup tasks required for this scenario are as follows:
1 Create an Environment task. Define the following environments:
Local Production, one production environment for the local development system.
Remote Production, one production environment for the remote production system.
Development, one development environment for all developers, or specific
environments per developer or project.
2 Create a User Profile task. Define user profiles for the following user roles:
Developer checks out members/objects, performs development, and creates a
promotion request targeting the quality assurance environments. The developer
compiles the promotion request in the work library.
Administrator or project leader creates projects and moves the promotion request to
production.
Multi-Platform Development and Deployment
Scenarios
Change is always certain. In every industry, companies face the difficult task of trying to
manage a multitude of changes. The companies that handle changes best are the ones that
excel and rise above their competition.
With the rapid migration towards e-Business solutions, the rate at which you need to turn
around system solutions has increased dramatically. There is no buffer for backtracking and
reworking when things are missed or overlooked.
There is also a much greater need to integrate many different system components from
various teams. The days of long release cycles are disappearing, and this changing business
model demands tighter management and coordination. Now, more than ever, development
teams need support for Software Configuration Management (SCM) and for handling change
requests quickly and efficiently, especially across multiple platforms.
