Development Tasks
Remote System Scenarios
This is the typical task sequence from the start of a programming change to completion.
1 Check out from base production. Developer checks out to a personal library, project
library, or shared development library. The developer checks out from the local
production version.
2 Develop and test. Developer codes, compiles, and tests programs.
3 Promote and distribute to base production and multiple remote sites.
Developer creates the promotion request targeting an environment group. The
environment group has the environment you checked out from listed as the first
environment, and the remote environment as the second environment.
Developer can compile the promotion request into the work library. Typically, you
compile just for the first environment.
Administrator moves the members/objects into the production environments. You
can perform the moves to the different environments at different times, if needed.
Many options exist for distributing the changes to the remote system.
4 Check out from Site N Mods on local system. Developer checks out to a personal library,
project library, or shared development library. The developer checks out from the Local
Site N version.
5 Develop and test. Developer codes, compiles, and tests programs.
6 Promote and distribute to remote site N production.
Setup Tasks
The setup tasks required for this scenario are as follows:
1 Create an Environment task. Define the following environments:
Local Production, one production environment for the local development system.
Remote Production, one production environment for the remote production system.
Development, one development environment for all developers, or specific
environments per developer, project, or site.
