Appendix D: Glossary
462
function A function describes a particular Implementer menu option or command. For
example, the Activity Report function refers to the interactive menu option activity that
prints the Activity Report and the submitted job that prints the report.
A function is also a specific type of AllFusion 2E model object you can promote (FUN); an
executable program or collection of programs.
function redirection Function redirection relates to when an AllFusion 2E function is
checked out and a new version of that function is created. Function redirection occurs to
ensure the selected version of the model object is current and has its internal references
directed towards the other object in the model. See also, currency.
IFS directory IFS directory is the location of an IFS file. When used in this capacity, the
directory usually refers to the full directory path. See also path.
This term is used as part of support Implementer provides for IFS objects. The term
corresponds to the OS/400 term, folder. In Implementer, it is referred to as a directory.
IFS file IFS file refers to the contents of IFS directories on the iSeries. It is the PC term for any
object stored in a directory. Some examples of files are executable programs, database files, or
video segments.
Within Implementer, the object name for an IFS file contains the IFS file name and the object
code contains the dot and extension. If the file name has no extension, the object code is
represented by a dot (.). Any name longer than eight characters and any extension longer
than six characters is converted (allowing one position for the “.”), for example:
IFS File Name Member/Object Name Object Code
HelloiSeriesWorld.class HELLOiSe~1 .CLASS
HelloiSeriesWorld HELLOiSe~1 .
The combination of the IFS file name and extension is known as the environment relative
name. Environment relative names up to 100 characters are supported. Environment relative
names greater than 100 characters require setting up an environment with a deeper
development path structure. See also IFS directory.
IFS object IFS object refers to the objects (IFS files and directories) stored in the IFS space on
the iSeries (IFS objects are not stored in libraries). It represents the IFS file names, directory
names, or complete directory contents specified in check out and create request. IFS files and
directories appear on reports and in audits. Implementer supports the following IFS objects:
IFS Files
You can check out or promote individual IFS files by using the object name and object
code. Each file checked out or promoted is listed on reports and audits.
IFS Directories
You can check out or promote the contents of a subdirectory (including subdirectory
contents) by using the backward slash (\) object code. For example, if you check out or
