Saving and Restoring Tape Archives
Saving and Restoring Tape Archives
Implementer users who require access to the archives of every change made to an
environment must often balance this requirement with the disk space required to store the
archive copies. Archiving to tape minimizes the impact of large archives by allowing you to
store the archives off line.
You can save and remove all archives or specific archives. You have access to the archive
information for each tape. You can selectively restore archives back to the system. Once
restored, you can browse the changes and/or recover the changes back into production.
This feature is also available on the Implementer Receiver. For details, see “Saving and
Restoring Remote Tape Archives” on page 192.
NOTE For information on archiving and archive recovery, see the MKS Implementer
2006 User Guide.
Key Considerations
Tape archives include IFS and DLO files and directories, if archived.
The archive to tape function uses two temporary libraries that Implementer
automatically creates at the beginning of the process and deletes at the end. Implementer
provides the data area IMARCTAP to store the names of these temporary libraries. The
default data are values are IMARCTAP1 and IMARCTAP2.
CAUTION If you change the default library names in the IMARCTAP data area, you
must specify library names that do not exist on the system, as Implementer creates
and deletes the libraries as needed. For details, see “Implementer Data Areas” on
page 402.
You can initiate all archive to tape functions from the Archives to Tape menu. Access to
the menu options and commands requires you sign on as QSECOFR or with a profile
that has a group profile of QSECOFR or QSECOFR capabilities.
A good practice is to use a new tape for each save. Implementer automatically sets the
tape label and initializes the tape with volume ARC###, where ### represents a number
that starts at 001 and automatically increments for each save. Implementer data area
