Chapter 6: Third Party Integrations
Overview
366
This fully integrated solution provides support for your Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) native and client/server software development targeted for an iSeries,
allowing you to access the functionality of Implementer while working within IBM’s Eclipsebased
technology in the following iSeries-focused offerings:
WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries (includes WebSphere Studio Site
Developer (WSSD)).
WebSphere® Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries (includes
WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD)).
For the purpose of this guide, both offerings are referenced as WDSc.
The plug-in blends transparently into the IDE, allowing you to work within the framework of
your existing Implementer software configuration management (SCM) structure. The
integration additionally supports using MKS Integrity for issue management, and
MKS Source for your PC-based development.
NOTE The setup tasks related to this integration are typically performed by each
developer (rather than an administrator) on individual clients; therefore, the setup
tasks are described in the MKS Implementer 2006 User Guide rather than this guide.
WDSc is an IBM development tool used for developing multiple types of applications for an
iSeries. It is the iSeries offering of IBM’s Eclipse-based WebSphere Studio Workbench
(WSW). It includes the full functionality of WebSphere Studio Site Developer Advanced
(WSSDA) and additional major components specific to the iSeries.
In WDSc, perspectives are used to manage the iSeries development. A perspective is a group of
views that show various aspects of the resources on the workbench. A user can switch
perspectives, depending on the current task, and customize the layout of the views and
editors within each perspective.
WDSc has three perspectives for iSeries development. This document describes the use of the
iSeries Projects and Remote Systems Explorer (RSE) perspectives as they relate to using the
fully integrated WDSc plug-in for Implementer.
The following shows a graphical view of the plug-in from within the RSE perspective.
