Chapter 4: Remote Distribution Concepts and Setup
182
This feature allows you to distribute a promotion request from the host iSeries to multiple
remote iSeries systems simultaneously, placing the remote move step under the control of a
default schedule defined for each remote system. Additional flexibility on the host system
allows you to reschedule the move for specific requests to manage the installation schedule of
selected promotion requests without having to access the remote system.
When scheduling a remote job, two options are available: Use the default job schedule
settings for the target remote environment, or use the Change Remote Request
(ICHGRMTRQS) command to override the default job schedule settings for a request, then
issue the Move Remote Request (IMOVRMTRQS) command to reschedule the job.
Using the Default Job Schedule
To schedule a promotion request to a remote environment based on the default settings for
that environment, use menu option 6, Move Requests by System/Environment to distribute
the request. This option is available for any remote environment set up as defined in “Remote
Job Scheduling” on page 183.
The promotion scheduling defined for the environment appropriately schedules the job
based on the default move time. Then, based on the frequency you define on the remote
OS/400 auto job schedule for the Move Remote Request (IMOVRMTRQS) command, the
move submits using the default schedule.
IMPORTANT The move step must be separate from the distribution step because it
must be a remote-initiated move.
Overriding the Default Job Schedule
The Change Remote Request (ICHGRMTRQS) command is used to enter schedule overrides
to the default move schedule for promotion requests. The command evokes DDM to
communicate the overrides to the schedule overrides file IMRQSO on the remote for each
target remote system on a request. A log of the schedule overrides is maintained in file
IMRQSO on the host and remote systems.
The Move Remote Request (IMOVRMTRQS) command updates the Move job. The
IMOVRMTRQS command reads the schedule overrides file IMRQSO on the remote and
applies the processed overrides to the OS/400 auto job scheduler. Then, based on the
frequency defined on the remote OS/400 auto job schedule for the IMOVRMTRQS
command, the subsystem is polled for new jobs to submit and new overrides not yet applied.
NOTE Only the IMOVRMTRQS command updates the Move job—the
ICHGRMTRQS command does not.
