Object Codes
What signifies an environment group name?
Environment group names must begin with an asterisk (*).
How is a primary environment identified from other environments in an environment group?
A primary environment must be sequence 1. Typically, this is a host production
environment. Additional environments must be a sequence greater than 1.
Can a target environment group be used on a path?
Object Codes
Yes. You can use an environment group on a path. If the environment group’s primary
environment is the first production environment on the path, it is the check out From
environment. If a production environment precedes the environment group on the path, the
first production environment is the check out From environment.
Implementer uses object codes to define the various types of members/objects you check out
and promote. They also enable automatic functions when you associate an object with an
object code.
An object code combines information from the OS/400 object type and source type and
directly associates the following to an object: OS/400 object type, object attribute, source
member type, default source file, and default authority. You can manually override the
default creation command and authority when you create the promotion request.
The Work with Object Codes function allows you to create, change, delete, activate, and
deactivate object codes. Most users do not need to change the default values; however, this
parameter-driven approach allows you to:
Create new object codes for object types not shipped in Implementer (for example, other
programming languages).
Change the standard source file for existing objects codes. For example, you can specify
that COBOL programs default to using the source file name QCBLSRC instead of the
standard OS/400 default name QLBLSRC. Changes you make to global object codes in
Work with Object Codes do not overwrite overrides defined at the environment level.
Change the compile options. For example, you can optimize all RPG programs during
compilation without changing the actual CRTRPGPGM command.
Call your own compile procedures by changing the commands used for compiling. For
example, many third-party application software packages have their own compile
commands.
Deactivate object codes you do not use, for example, System/36 and System/38
environment object codes.
