Anecdota from Irish manuscripts

Preface
The text of Cormac's Glossary which is here printed
is based upon a transcript from the Yellow Book of Lecan,
made many years ago by Whitley Stokes. This transcript,
which Mrs. Boothby kindly placed at my disposal after her
father's death, I collated in the first instance with the
photographic facsimile published by the Royal Irish Aca-
demy. When all but the last sheet was printed off I had
an opportunity of collating the whole with the original
manuscript. I then found that Stokes or I had in many
cases silently altered the spellings of the manuscript
where these needed correction, and in Latin words often
substituted the normal for the peculiar Irish spelling.
Besides I was repeatedly able to decipher better some
letters which were obscure in the facsimile, i) Of these
corrigenda I have relegated those which do not affect the
sense or are otherwise of no great moment to a list by
themselves at the end of the volume. There remain however
a number of more serious errors and misprints to be cor-
rected of which I subjoin a list here in order to at once
draw the reader's attention to them.
*) This was particularly the case on the first page which
in the facsimile (p. 255 = col. 1) is much blurred. In several
doubtful cases I applied to my friend Mr. K. I. Best to whom
several improvements on my readings are due.
