In terms <strong>of</strong> the total area <strong>of</strong> cultivation, Ashoury takes the first place with (85%), followed<br />

by Red Oleimy (5%), White Batoury (5%) <strong>and</strong> remaining varieties (5% as a whole)—see<br />

Table 4.<br />

In Tables 5-7 the three main Syrian pistachio varieties (Ashoury, Red Oleimy <strong>and</strong> White<br />

Batoury) are described in detail following the IPGRI Descriptors List for <strong>Pistacia</strong> vera (1997).<br />

The description <strong>of</strong> the other eight varieties is limited to some major nut traits (Table 8,<br />

Figs 6-48).
