4.3.3 Bottomfish Fishery<br />

The bottomfish fishery is comprised of reef fishes (beyond <strong>the</strong> seaward margin of <strong>the</strong> reef) and deepdwelling<br />

coastal fishes (depths ~300 m) taken by hook-and-line from anchored or drifting boats (Myers<br />

1993). Bottomfishing in <strong>the</strong> area requires more skill than <strong>the</strong> pelagic fishery, and fisherman must be<br />

familiar with <strong>the</strong> location of submerged bottom features and hooking techniques to be successful.<br />
