KNUT HAMSUN’S CAUCASIAN MYSTERIES GEORGIA 2005
In 1899 Knut Hamsun’s visit down to Caucasus passed without Printed Media accompanying him.
The famous writer never presented himself. When he was asked to present his personal identification
document, the tourist from the North used to show his friends’ business cards… His travel
held a key to many secrets and misteries. Even the travel might have turned into the fatal adventure
as it happened with the wanderer Nagel from Hamsun’s novel “Mysteries” - the main character
of the film might be found at the boundary of life and death. Sick with the Caucasian fever
and pursued by the police the young writer predicted the last period of his life: arrest, prison,
no statues in the cities of Norway, Eventually - rehabilitation and popularization after his death…

Film critic, doctor of science in art history and theory Oliko Zhghenti was
graduated from the faculty of fine arts of Tbilisi State University. She has
been working with the University of Theatre and Film of Tbilisi. She has
published many scientific papers and articles and is an author of a book
“National and Social Issues in the Georgian Cinema of 20-ies” (2007). Oliko
Zhghenti has been working on the documentary films project of “Famous
People in Caucasus”.
