British journalist Robert Parsons, now working for, first came to Georgia in the 1980s and was astonished that nearly every family he visited was able to sing traditional songs in complex harmony. Since then he has been a constant visitor to Georgia and witnessed much of the remarkable and often tragic events that have taken place. He has also built a house amongst the lush countryside and vineyards in the valley of Kakheti, the earliest recognised cradle of wine and regular invasion route of the Persians from the east. Born in 1958 in London. He briefly studied politics and philosophy at Bristol University and then music at City University in London whilst studying piano and conducting. He has a diploma in Pianoforte Performing (LRAM). In 2003 he became interested in making a film about Georgia and started visiting the country regularly with a camera. Songs of Georgia is the result and is in a way a conclusion of a circular journey started by his Georgian grandmother when she left her Georgian roots to devote her life to western classical music.
