n Smithfield Ferme has successfully implemented the Food Safety Management System and obtained the iSO 22000:2005 certificate. at the end of 2010… „ Smithfield Prod obtained the ISO 14001:2004 certificate in 2009 – followed in 2010 by a supervisory audit conducted with positive results. Smithfield Ferme obtained the Food Safety Management System Certification n Article by Mircea Bitca – project coordinator for the implementation of ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and 22000 at the end of last year, Smithfield Ferme successfully implemented the Food Safety Management System and obtained the iSO 22000:2005 Certificate, following the audit and certification by TUV austria Romania. By implementing the requirements of iSO 22000 standard we can say that, in terms of food safety, we meet all the requirements to provide safe products for the consumer’s health, up to the last stage of swine production. The implementation of iSO 22000:2005 standard provides the company with an organizational framework in order to identify, assess and control any potential food safety hazard by specific operation and control procedures. With a view to continuously improving the production processes, once the implementation and certification of the Food Safety Management System was achieved according to iSO 22000, a detailed analysis of the production process was also conducted in every farm and feedmills by the Food Safety Team. Following this analysis, a number of checks and monitoring actions were introduced throughout and at the end of the production process, and forms were developed to register the results of these checks. The implementation and certification of this Food Safety system, as well as the other ones already implemented and certified, in terms of Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety, does not mean that our effort to maintain and improve them will stop here. A program of internal audits and checks of the working points will be developed in the following period to collect as much information as possible in order to raise awareness of the employees and create a professional, organized and performing working environment. One of the benefits of the audits and checks is that they support the employees, as information is collected about the actual functioning of the processes on site. This is why the involvement of all the employees is required and desirable, as it can only lead to improving the performances of the company and, implicitly, of each and every one of us. SMITHFIELD PROD: Environmental audit – ISO 14001:2004 also in 2010 Smithfield Prod obtained the ISO 14001:2004 certificate in 2009 – followed in 2010 by a supervisory audit conducted with positive results. Our goal for 2011 is to conduct our activity so as to maintain the certification obtained in 2009 and be 100% compliant 100% of the time.
