Ferme were awarded the
Excellence award in CSR for the
tree planting initiatives.
Excellence in CSR award
Smithfield Prod and Smithfield Ferme
won the Excellence in CSR Award for the
tree planting initiatives, which have become
a tradition for us, starting 2008.
The award was granted by PRAIS Foundation,
during the official award ceremony
of the 4th edition of the national
planting movement “Millions of People,
Millions of Trees”.

area of the Central
Europe where community
traditions and
customs are kept by the
locals, whether Romanians,
Hungarians, Serbians, Swabians or
Bulgarians. Smithfield Ferme is excited
to support this year also a wide range of
customs and festivals related to the traditional
rural calendar, whether recitals with
folklore songs and dances, traditional
craftsmanship fairs, sports events.

Smithfield Ferme won the
cOMMuNiTY iNVesTMeNT
Excellence Award for Environmental Protection
and Community Involvement in 2010
last September, the US-based
parent-company, Smithfield
Foods, awarded our colleagues from
Smithfield Ferme an Excellence
Award for Environmental Protection
and Community Involvement.
The award, in the amount
of USD 2,000, was donated
to the support centre
for children with special
educational needs (C.E.S)
„Pentru un zâmbet de copil”
in Masloc village, Timis
County.
“This award motivates
us to further develop
these projects and launch
new ones, so as to help
the young generation to
breathe a cleaner air and have a
greener planet”, declared Mr. Bogdan
Mihail, CEO of Smithfield Romania.
The Smithfield Ferme project was
developed for one year and included
tree planting campaigns, trainings
on the environment and selective
waste collection, a number of informational,
educational and volunteering
actions conducted under the
aegis of the “Earth Week”, water testing
and monitoring actions.

Affairs, Smithfield Foods.
The awards, granted annually
by the management of Smithfield
Foods, were created to recognize the
activity of the Smithfield subsidiaries
and their staff in the prevention of
pollution and intensification of environmental
protection through innovative
projects. The projects were
assessed according to several criteria
such as: environmental impact, social
significance, originality and innovation,
as well as project transferability
to any other group subsidiary.
Smithfield Ferme’s Green Campaign results in 2010
Smithfield Ferme’s waste selective
collection and recycling program,
started last August, has generated
a significant participation
and, according also to the slogan of this internal
campaign – “We collect selectively and
select collectively” – we managed to make a
difference and show that Smithfield Ferme’s
employees are also committed and
responsible citizens. As a result of
the program, around 4 tons of paper
and one ton of plastic materials
were recycled during the four months and a
half remained from last year. The Green Campaign
will be continued this year, hoping to
generate as many supporters as possible.
