Goran Panici Manager, Production Department of Smithfield Ferme: „Performance is not only a word in the dictionary“ Performance: a word we often hear lately, in all speeches. What I think was forgotten is that it depends on us, on our work, perseverance and trust for the performance to be more than a word: to become a reality. I started in 2006 as a veterinarian in Pădureni farm. After acquiring direct experience in working with animals, I worked as an epidemiological doctor for two years at Ciacova farm and area epidemiological doctor as of the end of 2007, taking care of 15 farms, of which 2 are sow farms. In addition, the different internal training programs to foster the professional development of the specialized staff within Smithfield Ferme are a real help and motivation for continuous performance. In my professional activity, performance is often synonymous to ensuring the «bio-security» of our farms. It is a permanent concern for keeping the animals’ health, by continuing to strictly comply with the bio-security plan, for healthy animals, with performing genetics. The internal bio-security plan is in line with all the current Romanian and European Union regulations in the field of animal health, and is the key to maintaining the animals’ health. As for the medium-term objectives of the production department – we want to improve our production index, as well as the EFFICIENCY and profitability indexes. In a word: we want to be increasingly more performing! The civic and ecological educational n program “Your World? Clean!” started within Smithfield companies in the school year 2009-2010. Competition of compositions and items made of recycled materials Your world? CLEaN! The civic and ecological educational program Your World? Clean! started within Smithfield companies in the school year 2009-2010. The children of agroalim and Smithfield Prod employees could find out from the information materials about the environment and the impact that the human activity has on it, about selective waste collection and about what each and every one of us can do individually and together to take care of the environment at Agroalim, Your World? Clean! is also the first social responsibility program for the children of the employees, being very well received by all those involved, whether kids or adults. The program is simple, interesting, playful and also consistent with Smithfield’s commitment to environmental protection, being adjusted so as to be implemented in every Agroalim branch. All the employees’ children aged between 7 and 13 years received a folder and an educational brochure on environmental protection to read together with their parents. Then they were given a challenge: an invitation to the competition: the children could write a composition about the environment/environmental protection and/or make decorative items out of recycled materials as inventive as possible and… they won! The items selected could then be admired in Agroalim headquarters, as well as in the headquarters of Smithfield On “Meat Industry Day”, at mid August last year, Smithfield Prod organized two events to the benefit of the nonadministrative employees: a butchering contest and a barbecue party – own production. No. 1 – March 2011 Group companies, where similar competitions and exhibitions with the children’s creations were organized. The program of information and development of responsible civic behaviors will also be continued this year, under the aegis of the national initiative Your World? Clean! initiated by PRAIS Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and of the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest. This is why we are also launching an invitation to participate in the new edition of the competition on items made of recycled materials Your World? Clean! 2011 with the works developed by our little artists – children of the employees of Smithfield Group. We are looking forward to receiving their creations at the headquarters of Smithfield Ferme, Smithfield Prod and Agroalim. The level of involvement in the competition was maximum, just like the emotions of the participating colleagues.
