QUEENSLAND CRICKET AWARDS:<br />

Two of our players, in Ben Laughlin and Trish Brown, won the individual trophies for the best and<br />

fairest players in the mens’ and womens’ competitions at the Grade Trophy night on 21 April.<br />

Laughlin capped off a fine season where he took a hat trick against Northern Suburbs and a best<br />

7 for 44 against South Brisbane by winning the Peter Burge Medal by three votes from North’s<br />

Bulls off spinner Nathan Hauritz and University’s Bulls allrounder Lachlan Stevens. Laughlin joins<br />

previous Club winners Adam Dale in 1993-94 and 1995-96 and Scott Prestwidge in 1994-95.<br />

Interestingly his father Trevor, the former Victorian and Australian player, won the corresponding<br />

Melbourne award, the Jack Ryder Medal, in 1983-84 while captaining Collingwood. Dale has<br />

since won the Ryder medal in 2003-04 playing for North Melbourne.<br />

<strong>Queensland</strong> Fire player, Brown, with a season of 646 runs at 58.72, won the Kath Smith Medal in<br />

the Katherine Raymont Shield competition by seven points from Beenleigh Logan allrounder<br />

Delissa Kimmince and Wests’ Fire allrounder Louise Broadfoot. She has now won the medal for<br />

each of the four seasons it has been presented. She has now scored 2060 runs at 58.85 for the<br />

Club in three seasons.<br />

Other <strong>Queensland</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> award winners on the night were David Humphries for the best bowling<br />

average in fifth grade with 40 wickets at 8.92 and Trish Brown the first grade best batting average<br />

with 580 runs at 58.00.<br />

Ryan Broad first grade highest score 241.<br />

Ben Laughlin most wickets in first grade 42.<br />

Ryan Poole most dismissals in first grade 29.<br />

Dane Hutchinson most wickets in second grade 37.<br />

Matt Myers most dismissals in second grade 32.<br />

Craig Thomas fourth grade highest score - 197*.<br />

Matt Conwell most wickets in Under 18’s 34.<br />

Gavin Young most dismissals in Under 18’s 15.<br />

Trish Brown most runs in first grade 580<br />

Julia Price first grade highest score 159.<br />

Alice Nicklin most wickets in first grade 20.<br />

Julia Price most dismissals in first grade15.<br />

With two best player awards and fourteen individual awards this was the Club’s best<br />

representation at any Trophy presentation.<br />

Our premiership winning under 18’s and under 19’s also received their awards on the night.<br />

PETER BURGE MEDAL<br />

The Peter Burge Medal is awarded each season to the best and fairest Brisbane first grade<br />

cricketer, as judged by the first grade umpires. The award is named in honour of Peter Burge,<br />

widely regarded as <strong>Queensland</strong>'s finest home-grown batsman. He had a 15-year Shield career,<br />

scoring 7627 runs at an average of 56.08, including 24 centuries, in 91 matches. He captained<br />

<strong>Queensland</strong> on 29 occasions. He played 42 Test matches for Australia scoring 2290 runs at<br />

38.16, including four centuries.<br />
