PRESIDENT’S REPORT We had a successful season with good wins. However match analysis will reveal there was one round against Sandgate Redcliffe that sank our chances for finals positions throughout the Grades. Given that, the under 18’s won a thrilling final against Gold Coast at Boundary St. The under 19’s avenged their loss last year by beating Norths in the final at Norths. The Women narrowly lost to Wests in a first time appearance at the Gabba. First grade returned to the Gabba after 9 seasons to be outgunned in an historic 20/20 final against University. The one day team also made the final at Allan Border only to be beaten by Wests on the day. These limited over games were historic for the club in that the three Poole brothers played in the one team as they did in one first grade game. Some fine individual performances were recorded throughout the season with the highest first grade score of 241 by Ryan Broad, the highest partnership of 300 and a unique four hat tricks earned. The coaching team led by Wayne Niven and Wayne Scott was successful in engendering a more professional approach to match preparation and continues to instigate a change in culture. In Graham Kinnear’s coaching of the women’s team we were able to address an area that needed improvement. In an age where there are competing time restraints we recognize the contribution of our volunteers in administering our club. Particularly to the management Committee where Neil King was awarded clubman of the year for his ongoing performance, to Graham Mapri, Geoff Myers, David Brook, Kristian Poole and Noel Allen for their work. We also value the contribution of our scorers, Ruth Kelleher and Mike Mapri, and managers Steve White, Mike Young, Peter Spiers and Russell Turner. We had increased success with our sponsorship/fundraising particularly with the Gabba box provided by Queensland Cricket which enabled us to finish in funds. We thank Clem Jones for his award which was won by Will Prowse. Our social activities save for our successful Trophy night and bus trip still need more participation. The licensed club continues to attract members and is increasing turnover under a new management focus we still look forward to a dividend when they reach profitability. We are looking at ways to best manage our wicket preparation while containing costs which continue to increase such as fuel and Council charges. Our building program and wicket replacement is progressing and we will have some short term disruption next season which we will manage to secure better long term facilities. Tenders have been called for the buildings. We plan to regain a clubhouse where we can display our historical record and photograph collection and where we can socialize after a game. Graham Mapri and I continue to work on the detail that is on the net and we are forming a sub committee to plan for our 50 th Celebrations due in 2010-11. We congratulate our Rep players - Ryan Broad’s elevation to Qld, Chris Simpson, Julia Price, Trish Brown, Megan White. –the younger women 19 & 17, Natalia Banks, Laura Kidd, Zoe Springate, Alice Nicklin, Nicole Quinn. From a management focus we still have challenges to retain older players while providing opportunities for our increasing numbers of younger players. Training for next season has commenced and we are looking at ways to make our lower grades more competitive with better leadership and improved match preparation and technique. Page 11 of 59
