NOTICES<br />

P REACHERS AND S PEAKERS. The Provost will begin the academic<br />

year in Chapel by speaking at the 6.00 p.m. Evensong on 1 October.<br />

The <strong>College</strong> clergy will preach at the following Sunday morning<br />

communion services: 1, 15, 22, 29 October, 5 and 19 November.<br />

V ISITING P REACHERS at this <strong>term</strong>’s Sunday services will be Dr<br />

Andrew Chandler, Director of the Bishop George Bell Institute,<br />

Birmingham (8 October, Matins); Professor A S McGrade, KC 1964<br />

(5 November, Evensong); The Rt Revd Richard Holloway, formerly<br />

Bishop of Edinburgh (26 November, Sung Eucharist). The Chaplain<br />

will preach on Remembrance Sunday (12 November, Matins) and on<br />

Christmas Day.<br />

SUNDAY MORNINGS. Junior and senior, resident and non-resident<br />

members of <strong>College</strong> and their guests are welcome for sherry or soft<br />

drinks in E4 after the morning service.<br />

I LLUSTRATIONS. The cover and inside illustrations are taken from<br />

Albrecht Dürer’s woodcuts of scenes from the ‘Life of the Virgin’ and<br />

from ‘The Small Passion’ (1500-1512). They are ‘Nativity Scene’<br />

(cover); the Annunciation (September); the Visitation (October); the<br />

adoration of the shepherds (November); the adoration of the Magi<br />

(December).<br />

S ERVICES are sung by King’s <strong>College</strong> Choir on Tuesdays to Sundays,<br />

and on Mondays by the <strong>College</strong>’s mixed-voice choir, King’s Voices.<br />

CAROL SERVICES<br />

Admission to the procession for advent is by invitation only.<br />

The christmas eve carol service is primarily intended for<br />

the City of Cambridge and the general public. Apart from those<br />

reserved for members of <strong>College</strong> and their guests, seats are kept<br />

for those who are prepared to queue. Normally anyone joining<br />

the queue before 11.00 a.m. will gain admission, but it is not<br />

guaranteed that this will be so. The queue is admitted at 1.30 p.m.<br />

The Service begins at 3.00 p.m. We advise that this service is not<br />

suitable for young children.<br />

Carols are sung at the sung eucharist on christmas day at<br />

11.00 a.m. at which children are welcome. After places have been<br />

kept for members of the <strong>College</strong> and their guests, visitors will be<br />

welcomed, as at all the regular choral services throughout the<br />

year.<br />
