Escara, a freelance IEC Specialist shares<br />

his expertise in conceptualizing<br />

appropriate IEC approaches, IEC material<br />

lay-out <strong>and</strong> design using photoshop, <strong>and</strong><br />

photography techniques.<br />

ICRMP focal person from the target LGUs<br />

also attended the training – workshop.<br />

New Breed <strong>of</strong> Photojournalist in <strong>Fisheries</strong>. Newly trained photographers showcased<br />

their outputs in a photo exhibit at the MIS Hall after the 5-day training on EIC. Director<br />

Jovita Ayson led the judging <strong>of</strong> outputs. Based on the outputs, it is not far-fetched that<br />

a photojournalist might emerge among the crop.<br />

What’s up in <strong>Fisheries</strong>? BFAR R02 <strong>of</strong>ficials keep the populace<br />

abreast on the latest happenings <strong>and</strong> new technologies in<br />

fisheries as different media practitioners from print,<br />

broadcast <strong>and</strong> cable TV raised their queries in a live press<br />

conference dubbed as “Tipon-Tipan sa PIA” at the Philippine<br />

Information Agency, Tuguegarao City.<br />

The activity is also one way to<br />

drumbeat the forthcoming FCW.<br />

Sagipin ang Ludong. Sec. Proceso J. Alcala <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Agriculture visited BFAR RO2<br />

last October 7, 2010- a very first for a DA Secretary, to formally launch the Oplan Sagip Ludong<br />

in Region 02. This after a month when he gave instructions to Dir. Ayson to formulate plan <strong>and</strong><br />

lead the effort in saving this rapidly-dwindling type <strong>of</strong> freshwater mullet known as “President<br />

Fish” – due to its astronomical price <strong>of</strong> P5,000.00 per kilo.<br />

The secretary also visited the newly established Fish Health <strong>and</strong> Fish Processing Laboratory <strong>of</strong><br />

BFAR <strong>and</strong> the Duckweeds Culture Project at APC Fish Farm in Iguig, Cagayan. Duckweed is being<br />

promoted by the bureau as supplemental fish feed in order to cut on production cost.<br />

OPENING PROGRAM & RAINY MOTORCADE. After the<br />

Jingle Contest, the director decided to have the<br />

Opening Program <strong>and</strong> Motorcade in advance due to<br />

impending typhoon. Despite scattered rain showers<br />

<strong>and</strong> threatening winds as typhoon Juan approaches<br />

Tuguegarao City, BFAR R02 successfully conducted the<br />

Jingle Contest prior to the opening program <strong>and</strong><br />

motorcade. The motorcade went about the busy roads<br />

<strong>of</strong> Tuguegarao City creating an awareness as its “Buhay<br />

M<strong>and</strong>aragat” song echoed through the city’s<br />

thoroughfares.<br />

FLE Day. Typhoon “Juan” hit Cagayan Valley Region Monday morning<br />

dealing a heavy blow on the province <strong>of</strong> Isabela. All activities for the<br />

Fish Conservation Week from Monday to Wednesday were<br />

cancelled.Meantime, BFAR Disaster Task Force kept an eye in the<br />

monitoring <strong>of</strong> typhoon damages on fisheries.<br />

by BFAR CBFF <strong>and</strong> MBSH together with LGU Claveria <strong>and</strong> residence <strong>of</strong> Brgy.<br />
