Project specifically Enterprise
Development. Mr. Ernesto
Escara, a freelance IEC Specialist shares
his expertise in conceptualizing
appropriate IEC approaches, IEC material
lay-out and design using photoshop, and
photography techniques.
Organic staff of the bureau and
ICRMP focal person from the target LGUs
also attended the training – workshop.

New Breed of Photojournalist in Fisheries. Newly trained photographers showcased
their outputs in a photo exhibit at the MIS Hall after the 5-day training on EIC. Director
Jovita Ayson led the judging of outputs. Based on the outputs, it is not far-fetched that
a photojournalist might emerge among the crop.

What’s up in Fisheries? BFAR R02 officials keep the populace
abreast on the latest happenings and new technologies in
fisheries as different media practitioners from print,
broadcast and cable TV raised their queries in a live press
conference dubbed as “Tipon-Tipan sa PIA” at the Philippine
Information Agency, Tuguegarao City.
The activity is also one way to
drumbeat the forthcoming FCW.

Sagipin ang Ludong. Sec. Proceso J. Alcala of the Department of Agriculture visited BFAR RO2
last October 7, 2010- a very first for a DA Secretary, to formally launch the Oplan Sagip Ludong
in Region 02. This after a month when he gave instructions to Dir. Ayson to formulate plan and
lead the effort in saving this rapidly-dwindling type of freshwater mullet known as “President
Fish” – due to its astronomical price of P5,000.00 per kilo.
The secretary also visited the newly established Fish Health and Fish Processing Laboratory of
BFAR and the Duckweeds Culture Project at APC Fish Farm in Iguig, Cagayan. Duckweed is being
promoted by the bureau as supplemental fish feed in order to cut on production cost.

OPENING PROGRAM & RAINY MOTORCADE. After the
Jingle Contest, the director decided to have the
Opening Program and Motorcade in advance due to
impending typhoon. Despite scattered rain showers
and threatening winds as typhoon Juan approaches
Tuguegarao City, BFAR R02 successfully conducted the
Jingle Contest prior to the opening program and
motorcade. The motorcade went about the busy roads
of Tuguegarao City creating an awareness as its “Buhay
Mandaragat” song echoed through the city’s
thoroughfares.

FLE Day. Typhoon “Juan” hit Cagayan Valley Region Monday morning
dealing a heavy blow on the province of Isabela. All activities for the
Fish Conservation Week from Monday to Wednesday were
cancelled.Meantime, BFAR Disaster Task Force kept an eye in the
monitoring of typhoon damages on fisheries.

“PUNO MO, SAGIP BUHAY MO”, a Mangrove Planting project spearheaded
