PREREQUISITES FOR zAAP<br />

Introduced in April 2004 along with z890 mainframes, zAAP<br />

will be supported in z890, z990, and future models only. The<br />

operating system has to be upgraded to zOS/zOSe 1.6. IBM<br />

SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, V1.4 with PTF (or<br />

later) is also required.<br />

IMS Versions 7, 8, or 9, DB2 Versions 7 or 8, and CICS 2.3 can<br />

exploit zAAP.<br />

WebSphere Version 5.1 or above can exploit zAAP. IBM also<br />

offers some relaxation for WAS load to exploit zAAP before<br />

moving to<br />

z/OS 1.6<br />

CONTROLLING THE USE OF zAAP<br />

IBM SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, V1.4 includes<br />

the following new run-time options for zAAP support:<br />

-Xifa:on – this can enable Java work to be run on the zAAP<br />

if the zAAPs are available. This setting is assumed by<br />

default.<br />

-Xifa:off – this is designed to disable the use of zAAP.<br />

-Xifa:projectn – this is designed to estimate projected<br />

zAAP usage and write this information to STDOUT at<br />

intervals of n minutes.<br />
