12 expert lectures, 32 exhibitors and 260 visitors from<br />

Europe met for preparing cooperations and future<br />

projects or for simply intensifying existing contacts.<br />

Working together as partners is what Europe needs.<br />

The Technology Workshops in Neustadt,<br />

Goslar and Engelskirchen (Barlog plastics)<br />

have proved to be an excellent platform for<br />

product development, mould design and<br />

injection moulding for 9 years.<br />

Especially today, plastics engineering is a<br />

discipline that needs new impulses from new<br />

technologies and procedures as well as from<br />

cooperation and living teamwork.<br />

Once a year, <strong>Konstruktionsbüro</strong> <strong>Hein</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong><br />

and <strong>Stieler</strong> <strong>Kunststoff</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong> offer this<br />

established platform for communication in the<br />

plastics engineering industry.<br />

32 exhibitors present their latest technologies regarding development and processing in the<br />

field of plastic materials. This report can only give detailed information on some of the<br />

exhibitors. For additional information please see also the list at the end of this report and the<br />

information on the CD (only available in German).<br />

The excellent teamwork during the first project “Clip“ of HASCO,<br />

ISK, Dicronite, Linde, Barlog plastics and <strong>Konstruktionsbüro</strong><br />

<strong>Hein</strong> is an impressive example for what can be achieved by<br />

cooperation. For example, an application using a Baby-Plast<br />

injection moulding machine with special standard elements for<br />

mould design and a 16fold hotrunner system was demonstrated<br />

at the exhibition. As there is hardly any room left for a good<br />

conventional temperature control here, we found a new way<br />

- again. The CO2 solution needs minimum space and allows for an effective temperature<br />

control.<br />

Laser marking is more and more used in all areas. Even for materials like POM (white), that<br />

were difficult to handle in the past, Barlog plastics <strong>GmbH</strong> was able to demonstrate a good<br />

typeface by using a colour change at the Technology Workshop.<br />

The simulation of distortion of<br />

plastic materials and the ensuing<br />

optimisation of geometries in order to reduce distortions was<br />

displayed using examples at the exhibition stand of<br />

<strong>Konstruktionsbüro</strong> <strong>Hein</strong>.<br />

In order to produce plastic parts at a high reliability with<br />

regard to the process, deadlines and dimensions, the distortion can be reduced significantly<br />

in advance by taking a number of measures. If necessary, the remaining distortion is<br />

compensated using negative correction – while maintaining the tangentialities. That means<br />

that the tool is produced with certain curves in order that the resulting component will be<br />

straight and according to the required dimensions. For semi-crystalline materials in particular,<br />

the well-balanced temperature control of the tool is of high significance. Here, we provide<br />

mould cores made from 1.2343 (HRC56) molten by laser with a temperature control close to<br />

the contour, which will then be polished on the inside and coated against corrosion.<br />

The move towards unleaded solders with higher soldering bath<br />

temperatures results in a number of requirements for development and<br />

processing in the E&E industry, regarding the plastic raw materials for<br />

plugs, switches and other elements. Fa. Barlog plastics of Engelskirchen<br />

(Germany) was able to present innovative solutions within the new<br />

standards on environmental compatibility (e. g. Directive for the reduction of Waste Electrical<br />

and Electronic Equipment) and the requirements for fire protection (e.g. IEC 60335-1) in<br />

order that polyamides and polyester remain the number 1 construction materials in the future.<br />

Some like it cold. <strong>Stieler</strong> <strong>Kunststoff</strong> <strong>Service</strong><br />

<strong>GmbH</strong> presented the COOL FLOW SYSTEM –<br />

an already well-proven system for the injection<br />

moulding of plastic materials that does not only<br />

reduce distortions but also decreases the cycle<br />

for gas injection moulding dramatically. At first,<br />

the gas injection process is carried out<br />

conventionally. Only after the volume shrinkage<br />

of the plastic material is almost finished the cavity<br />

is being rinsed using an especially developed ventilation system: A counter-pressure valve<br />

rinses the cavity with nitrogen that is -25°C cold in order to additionally transfer the heat from<br />

the inside. The tool developed for this procedure last year in cooperation with<br />

<strong>Konstruktionsbüro</strong> <strong>Hein</strong> (Cold Handle) could meanwhile be tested with diverse procedures for<br />

gas injection and thus provided us with further experiences we can use for new applications.<br />

By using the new LDS technology, Harting is able to<br />

selectively add metal tracks onto three-dimensional solids in<br />

an entirely additive production process without additional<br />

tools. This procedure allows for using much smaller<br />

components connecting the mould and the tracks, as you<br />

can see here as for a hearing aid.<br />

Today’s high-performance plastic materials with additives for fire protection result in<br />

significantly increased requirements on the screws of the injection moulding machine. At our<br />

event, Boyke pointed at interesting applications during their lecture. Different coatings for<br />

wear protection and with minimum adhesion to the injection moulding tools and screws are<br />

compared.<br />

A complex analysis of a mounted part after assembly, i.e. measuring inside<br />

of the part and inspecting it section for section, allows for an encompassing<br />

analysis of the entire component. State-of–the-art computer tomography is<br />

utilised for a stunning variety of applications by <strong>Konstruktionsbüro</strong> <strong>Hein</strong>. It<br />

is thus a useful tool for fault diagnosis.<br />

Measuring the temperature and the pressure directly at the surface of the mould contour is<br />

essential for the process safety of injection moulding machines. Nevertheless, this tool is<br />

rarely used even though the spatial requirements are very low. Kistler showed why and how<br />

this instrument can be used efficiently.<br />

Water transfer pressure by Dips’n’Pieces is an innovative<br />

technology for decorating the most diverse materials and<br />

forms. As differing forms as covers for mobile phones,<br />

dashboards, window profiles or rims for car wheels can be<br />

coated with decorations such as carbon, burl wood, granite,<br />

brushed aluminium or other imaginative looks. the result is a<br />

unicum. A final coating with clear varnish renders the<br />

surface highly resistant against scratches and abrasion as<br />

well as weather and UV proof.<br />
