published it in 1950. <strong>Bhai</strong> Santokh <strong>Singh</strong> apparently had this<br />
book in his possession and made use of itinthe writing of his<br />
SurajPrakash. LaterErnest Trumpp seems to have hadaccess<br />
to it and, following him, otherscholarssuchasFredericPincott<br />
and Syed Muhammad Latif made use ofit intheir books. Since<br />
in the original manuscript no distinction was made between<br />
the stories relating to Guru Tegh Bahadur and Guru Gobind<br />
<strong>Singh</strong>, some ofthe events described inthebooks ofthese later<br />
scholars became telescoped giving an erroneous view of the<br />
life of Guru Tegh Bahadur. <strong>Bhai</strong> <strong>Vir</strong> <strong>Singh</strong> set this right by<br />
establishing that the first 38 stories related to Guru Tegh<br />
Bahadur'slife andremaining80to Guru Gobind<strong>Singh</strong>'s. There<br />
were two stories which were obviously interpolations and<br />
<strong>Bhai</strong> <strong>Vir</strong> <strong>Singh</strong> published these inthe form of appendices.<br />
