Rather than make the required short
fi lm as his fi nal-year project, fi lm
student Gust Van den Berghe decided
to shoot a feature in black and white,
using mentally handicapped actors. His
teachers forbade the project, so he shot
it in secret. After its screening at Cannes
this year, critics are now comparing the
25-year-old, who will be on hand to talk
about his fi lm at this avant-premiere, to

who divided his time between London
and Paris, may not be as famous as
his great friends Degas and Manet,
yet nevertheless in his short career he
produced some very bold and luminous
Impressionist works, before his death at
the tender age of 38.

italien, qui partagea son temps entre
Londres et Paris, a également produit
des œuvres impressionnistes

pendant sa courte carrière, avant sa
