Being a
Unisa Alumnus
An invitation from the Unisa Alumni Association
Once you successfully complete your degree or diploma, you become a Unisa alumnus. Short Learning
Programme certificate holders are not technically considered “alumni”, but remain part of the Unisa family. Either
way, we try to maintain our relationship with you.
You have what it takes to succeed at ODL: diligence, determination, self-sacrifice and commitment. We value
both you and your qualities. We also recognise the potential in all our graduates and diplomates to assist Unisa in
achieving its vision: To become the African university in the service of humanity.
By passing on your knowledge, by helping current and future students, you continue the cycle of learning,
thereby making our country and the world a better place for all.
We invite all our alumni to join our Alumni Association, to share our vision and to help realise a better future by
supporting our many educational initiatives through financial assistance and active participation.
In turn, we offer you the opportunity to network with other alumni, to share the benefits of knowledge, and to
continue the never-ending, always rewarding process of learning.
The Unisa Alumni Association
The association aims to improve the level of engagement between Unisa and its alumni, and to mobilise those
alumni in the service of the university. Alumni wishing to join will be asked to donate a minimum annual fee of
R150. This contribution is tax deductable. Members will be issued with a tax certificate at the end of each year.
Unisa strives to provide affordable, world-class education to students who, through circumstance or financial
constraints, cannot attend a full time “contact” university. Unisa’s alumni are an invaluable source of financial
support. It’s partly through your generosity that we can continue towards our goal of becoming the African
university in the service of humanity.
