Monoicous. Male. Anthers spherical, pedicelled, solitary
in the axillse of the perichetial leaves. Fem. Calyx
lateral, ovate or reverse-ovate, slender at bottom, 5-cornered;
mouth contracted, elevated, tubular, toothed; pe^
duncle short, jointed ; capsule spherical, seeming 4-valved ;
valves u]5right, irregularly networked ; seeds roundish
elaters tubular, membranaceous, dilated at the end, adhering
to the tip of the valves ; helices double, slightly
twisted. Thallus creeping; leaves 2-rowed, stipuled, two-
cut, segments unequal, conduplicate, lobes rolled in; stipules
nicked.
