modifications from the institution, then the study programme or institution must make those
modifications.
The modifications must meet two requirements:
They must be suitable and necessary. Suitable means that the modification
must remove or reduce an impediment, which will enhance the independence of the concerned student.
Necessary means that the same goal cannot be achieved in a different and cheaper manner. All of this to
the extent that the requested modifications do not entail a disproportionate burden for Stenden as
referred to in art. 2 of the Equal Treatment of Disabled and Chronically Ill People Act.
One of the student counsellors is the contact person for Disability & Study (refer to section 3.5 in chapter
3).
This student counsellor will provide information and advice about possible modifications and facilities and
will mediate in their realisation.

Procedures
Re A Material facilities
Most material basic facilities can be used unconditionally. If the student wants to make use of the
facilities administered by the audiovisual service, he or she must submit a request via the Disability &
Study contact person/student counsellor.
If a facility (a special chair, for instance) is provided on loan, the request is submitted to the Disability &
Study contact person and laid down in a learning agreement.
Re B Educational facilities
If a student wants to make use of certain facilities, it is recommended to make an appointment with one
of the Disability & Study contact persons/student counsellor as soon as possible.
Sometimes, it is advisable to do so before beginning your studies. They can provide advice about possible
facilities. In consultation with the student counselling coordinator, you can discuss which steps to take to
realise the facilities. For certain facilities, you must submit a request to the Examination Committee.
A medical certificate is desirable. The agreements and responsibilities are laid down in a learning
agreement, entitled „Studying with a functional disorder‟. The learning agreement applies to the entire
study programme or certain components of it and to a definite period.
Students who want to have special test facilities must reserve these, if possible, at least 2 weeks prior to
the test period with the Disability & Study contact person or the student counsellor responsible in that
respect. The Test Service Office takes care of the organisation of the test facilities.
