English language assignments must be written in British English. par. 6 Part-time students hand in their module assignments at the IHM Service Desk or at the local tutor of the part-time programme on the date that is given in the module book. Article 6.3b Procedure on module assignments handed in too late at the IHM Service Desk If a student hands in the module assignment after the deadline at the IHM Service Desk, one should consider the following procedure: the text “handed in too late” is written on the proof of handing in form by the Service Desk employee. the student will be notified that the assignment will be assessed as soon as authorization has been granted by the Exam Committee; the student will be notified that one must issue a request at the Exam Committee for an assessment within one school week after the deadline for handing in the assignment; if the student‟s request does not reach the Exam Committee within one school week after the deadline for handing in, the assignment will not be assessed; it will be destroyed; Within 4 school weeks following the deadline for handing in, the student will be notified by the Exam Committee. In case the exam committee decides to assess the assignment the Service Desk will start her usual procedure. In case the Exam Committee decides to not assess the assignment the student has to pick up his assignment at the Service Desk within 4 weeks after the ruling of the Exam Committee. Thereafter the assignment will be destroyed. Article 6.4a Active participation PBL and CBL for compulsory modules par. 1 PBL-/CBL -meetings are always held, even when the tutor is absent, unless they are cancelled by school. In the absence of the tutor, the group writes down besides the usual minutes a report of the meeting in which they include the number of points every student oneself has intended to give for his/her active participation plus motivation. This report must be handed in to the module coordinator who is responsible for granting the points. par. 2 If it is not possible for a meeting to go ahead for reasons that can be attributed to the school and if the meeting has not been rescheduled or if no compensation assignment has been given, the student will receive for that meeting a number of points for active participation that equals the average of the number of points received for all attended sessions during the module. par. 3 No resits are possible for active participation. par. 4 For part-time students the following is applicable: The number of active participation points a student receives for a certain PBL/CBL meeting is determined by the assessment criteria being applied for that meeting regarding that student's active participation. If the student meets all criteria, one receives the maximum possible number of points. The criteria are defined by the local tutor in consultation with the coordinator of the part-time programme. par. 5 Students must themselves indicate their presence by means of a signature on the attendance list. Article 6.4b Active participation at in elective modules par. 1 The module book states the maximum of module points a student can obtain per PBL/CBL meeting, which standard is used and according to which criteria the module points for active participation are acknowledged. Article 6.5 Participation in practical classes par. 1 For modules that include practical education, 100% attendance is compulsory for participation in the practical lessons. See the practice regulations in the concerning module books. On force majeure during practice see article 14 of these regulations. Article 6.6 Tests in general par. 1 A defining feature of a test is that it must be taken under exam conditions. This means that tests are taken under the supervision of one or more examiners of the Hotel Management education at a predetermined time and place and that it is subject to the stipulations of Articles 16a and 16b of the Exam Regulations. par. 2 a. The date, time of commencement, duration and place of a test is announced one week at the latest before the test. b. Other than in cases of force majeure, the published test dates, duration and commencement times of the test are binding. Part 2 Hotel Management Study Guide 2011-2012 57
par. 3 Additional regulations governing tests are announced on the Stenden intranet or on Blackboard before the test is held. Students should also pay attention to the announcements on the front page of the test. par. 4 Test questions are asked in English, also for first year students in the Dutch Stream. par. 5 To take the test a student must enrol in ProgRESS, at the latest one and a half week prior to the test week. On enrolment a proof of enrolment must be printed. Without this proof a student cannot derive rights of enrolment. par.6 The student is obliged to take with him the printed proof of enrolment to the test. This proof of enrolment indicates that the student has enrolled and is therefore entitled to take the test. Article 6.6a The Progress test par. 1 The tests comprises out of 200 multiple choice questions (with three answer possibilities). par. 2 The test forms with the student‟s answers are read by the Test Service Office. par. 3 Per study year a student can take a maximum of 4 tests. par. 4 There are four test moments per study year, for part-time students two. par. 5 Within the boundaries of the published test schedule in the study guide the student is free in choosing the test moment(s). par. 6 Students taking a module on one of the other Stenden sites or who are on internship abroad can take the test on one of the Stenden International Branch Campuses. Article 6.6b The Module test as a component of the module exam (module test) par. 1 Various module test forms can be applied. par. 2 Resits for the module test can be taken. par. 3 The regular module test opportunity is offered during or at the end of the period in which a student takes a module. When the student does not participate in this regular module test opportunity, this opportunity expires. Article 6.7 Open minor Students can replace one elective module/minor by a so called open minor (15 EC). For that purpose they must submit a project proposal at the exam committee. The requirements for the project proposal are stated on the IHM intranet and on Blackboard at the IHM Exam Committee. Article 6.8 Extracurricular credits For the regulations concerning the obtaining of extracurricular credits (credit internal service, elective credits or credit participation SSW and Host Programme) refer to section 2B.10 of this guide. Article 6.8a Internal Services To obtain the second year credit for Internal Services Stenden University Hotel all students are scheduled to work in Stenden University Hotel, the learning company. Article 6.9 Career development par. 1 Every student gets a study career coach (study career coach) assigned on entering the programme. On regular times he/she has an interview with ones coach concerning the study progress, the development of ones personal and professional competences and ones career orientation. Students must prepare sufficiently for these meetings. par.2 On acquiring the credits for Career Development one is referred to the Career Development Programme file on Blackboard. Part-time students are referred to the module book on Career Development. par.3 Because a personal coach can be asked by the Exam Committee for study advice, students are expected to keep their study career coach informed on special personal circumstances.
