2B.10.1 Internal Services Stenden University Hotel Every student needs to obtain 1 credit for Internal Services in the learning company Stenden University Hotel. This credit can only be obtained in the assessment week when you are doing the second year practical module 4 . You will be scheduled for this credit by Stenden University Hotel. 2B.10.2 Participation Study Start Week and Host Programme Participation in the Study Start Week and Host Programme is obligatory for every new student who starts in the first or the second year of the IHM programme. The duration of the Host Programme will be 1 semester. The total programme will be awarded by 1 credit. 2B.10.3 Elective Credits Every student needs to get 4 elective credits, two credits in the first year and two credits in the second year. Examples of activities by which elective credits can be gained (but of course, there are more possibilities): Participating in Stenden University Hotel for 28 hours per credit in one of the study weeks. This will be scheduled by Stenden University Hotel. Students can sign up at the IHM Front Desk by filling in the ISP application form that is offered at the IHM Intranet and on Blackboard and by handing it in at the IHM Front Desk. Your shifts for these credit(s) have to be registered via the Credit Registration Form, which is also available at the IHM Intranet and on Blackboard. Activities in the executive board of a student association like Io Vivat. The chairman of the student association gives the IHM dean a list with names, activities and credits. The dean signs this list and gives it to the IHM Service Desk. Activities as a member of the StuRa. The chairman of the StuRa gives the IHM dean a list with names, activities and credits. The dean signs this list and gives it to the IHM Service Desk. Activities as a member of the Stenden University Hogeschoolraad (council). Activities as a member of IHM Deelraad (IHM council). Activities as a member of the IHM Opleidingscommissie. PR activities for IHM. Contact person is Mr A. Keizer. Quality activities for IHM (coordination of evaluations). Contact person is Mrs C. Meijer or the module coordinator of your module for further information. Be a host. You will get 2 elective credits. Participation in the placement work group. Participation in the Promo Team (promotion activities). Activities for Stenden Meeting-U (Conference Office). Modern Foreign Language 3. Culture Club. Activity committee of your house (learning community). Selection days. Individual activities. Students can choose activities that strengthen their personal competencies; they may not be paid for their work! Examples of such activities are: o Research projects for the ISM o Member of the Placement Workgroup (stage werkgroep) o IHM Sports Committee: organising sports events o Member of committees and workgroups within the various student associations o General member or member of the executive board of “Leeuwarder Student Pastorate” o Member of executive board of “Dionysus” wine society o Member of executive board of FREC o Several activities as mentioned in the Stenden Times or at the Stenden intranet o Projects for lecturers (discuss with individual lecturer) o Own proposal (discuss with study career coach/personal coach) 4 Students who are doing the Fast Track MHS will get an exemption for Internal Services Stenden University Hotel second year, because they also have an exemption for the second year practical module. Procedure Elective credits Modern Foreign Language 3 Students are informed about this course via the Stenden Times, Intranet and e-mail. Only when the students pass the closing test and have participated sufficiently, they obtain a certain amount of EC. The person responsible for the different foreign languages will give the points to the Service Desk (and they register them in ProgRESS).We charge from students a fee (approximately half of the costs). Culture Club The chairman of the Culture Club organisation gives the IHM dean a list with names, activities and credits. The director signs this list and gives it to the IHM Service Desk. The Service Desk will send the credits to ProgRESS. Individual activities The student consults his study career coach, decides which competencies he wants to practice and strengthen and on basis of this he chooses an activity. The student fills in the proposal (see Blackboard at IHM Exam Committee ) and lets it sign by his study career coach. After the activity has taken place, the student writes a report of 1 A4 maximum and hands it in at his study career coach. The last one gives the credits to the student and to the Service Desk. The Service Desk gives the credits to ProgRESS. Reports of undertaken activities are added to the student‟s portfolio. Additional information One credit stands for an effort of 28 hours: preparing and performing the activity and writing an evaluation report. It is not possible to connect different, unrelated activities that add up to 28 hours (or a multiple of 28 hours) to gain an elective credit. A student can gain more elective credits than is obligatory. Extra credits will be registered in ProgRESS and will be added to the total amount of credits. Students who perform extra activities for the IHM institute can be rewarded with a certificate of commitment. The activity should not be paid for. The activity should be performed in principle with a minimum of or without coaching of a lecturer. The evaluation report is being discussed with the personal coach through the student‟s portfolio. 2C Study progress policy 2C.1 IHM Exam Committee Introduction IHM has an Exam Committee. The Examination Regulations of Stenden University (see Student Regulations, Part 1) and the Module Examination Regulations of IHM (in this study guide) describe the tasks and responsibilities of the Exam Committee. In short: the IHM Exam Committee is the institution at IHM that will determine in a neutral and competent way if a student meets the requirements of the Education and Exam Regulations to get the degree of Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) in Hotel Management. The Exam Committee has 5 members: a chairman, a secretary and three other members. The Exam Committee has a meeting three times per module period: Tuesdays in week 2, 5 and 8. Once per month a graduation meeting is held in which the Exam Committee determines which students have graduated and which students have passed their foundation year. Formal requirements requests to the IHM Exam Committee 1. Requests to the exam committee must be handed in to the secretary of the committee or in his absence to the secretariat of the Education one calendar week before the meeting date. The meeting dates of the exam committee are published in this study guide. Letters that are handed in too late, will automatically be put on the Exam Committee‟s agenda of their next meeting. 2. For this request, a student must use the form published on the IHM Intranet or on Blackboard (see 2C.4).
