INDIA HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT 2005 Jharkhand
Suchuwa Oraon of Jhulandiha village
Dame Oraon, s/o Madhava Oraon of Sareya
village were also released on 20 July 2003
after being detained for 1 and half years.
Bandhu Oraon, son of Jitu Oraon of
Baseriya village released on 18 August
2003 after detention for 20 months. 57
On 9 June 2004, Chief Minister Arjun
Munda announced the government’s order
of withdrawal of POTA against 145
116
detenues after the state review committee
found that the cases lacked enough
evidence in 59 cases. 58 But, many of the
released POTA detainees continued to
remain in prison under various charges
filed under normal laws. Many were too
poor to pay the bail bond money and have
little access to legal aid. However, those
police officials who have abused POTA
have been given complete impunity. ■
