In addition to the cases cited earlier in
the report, the killings of civilians by the
armed opposition groups have been
systematic.
On the night 10 January 2004, heavily
armed cadres of armed opposition groups
reportedly barged into the house of Farooq
Ahmad Mir at Lurgam, Tral in Pulwama
district. They segregated his children and
locked them in a room and later shot dead
both Mir and his wife Zaina. Mir was a
photographer by profession. 89
On 5 February 2005, the dead body of
Ghulam Din, a resident of Dharosh Dessa
area of Doda district was found at Dharosh
nallah. A group of armed cadres had
reportedly kidnapped him on the
intervening night of 3 and 4 February. 90
On the night of 21 March 2004, a
group of armed cadres of the Laskar-e-
Toiba allegedly entered the house of Fetah
Mohammad Gujjar in Tanka demanding
food and shelter. When the family
members refused, the armed cadres blew
up the house with a grenade, killing
Mohammad’s four-year-old son and
injuring his wife and four children. Fiveyear-old
Zahida died on the way to
hospital. 91
On 7 April 2004, a group of heavily
armed opposition groups’ members
reportedly kidnapped one Abdul Wahid of
Batuga Thathri from Draman Tanta forest
area of Gool in Udhampur district when he
went to forest to cut wood. They took him
to the interior part of forest and shot him

dead. His bullet-riddled body was
recovered from the forest area on 8 April
2004. 92
In the early morning of 30 June 2004,
a group of heavily armed opposition
groups’ members reportedly barged into
the house of one Anwar Hussain Gujjar at
Dera Bangla village in Bhudal tehsil of
Rajouri district and allegedly abducted
him and his son Ashraf. They were
inhumanly tortured and later beheaded.
Their bodies were thrown outside their
house. 93
On the night of 19 July 2004,
members of an armed opposition group
stormed into the house of a retired BSF
Havildar Abdul Gani at Gurdanbala in
Rajouri district and opened indiscriminate
firing upon the family members killing
them on the spot including two children. 94
On 13 September 2004, some armed
opposition group members reportedly
stormed into the house of one Mohammad
Jamal at Shatta Dhoke in the Surankot area
of Poonch district and killed Mohammad
Jamal, his wife Banoo Bi and Abdul Gani
by slitting their throats. 95
On the night of 31 October 2004, a
group of members of armed opposition
groups reportedly came to the house of
Tuffail Hussain in the village of Sangiot in
Poonch district and abducted his 18-yearold
son Tariq Ahmed at gunpoint. They
took him to the adjoining forest area and
slaughtered him by slitting his throat. His
body with deep slit injury on his neck was
recovered on 2 November 2004. 96
