Mexican legends is topic of book
written by substitute teacher
BY DELIA DIAZ
MT STAFF WRITER
Cesar Salazar Vigil, VMT substitute and retired
teacher, wrote a novel about Mexican legends.
His goal is to give the opportunity for readers to
learn more about the Mexican culture.
Salazar discussed expectations of his novel for
readers.
“The title for my novel is ‘A Través del Misterio
a la Cuarta Dimensión’; the novel is mainly
about the traditions, customs, superstitions
and myths that are carried on within humans,
in general,” Salazar explained.
Some of the legends that Salazar included in
his book are Father Mateo and La Llorona.
“I mentioned the legend of the Llorona in my
novel. People in several parts of Laredo say they
have heard La Llorona cry, at the (international)
railroad bridge, Puente Negro, and Baranco (by
Meadow Avenue and Lyon Street),” Salazar
said.
Authors usually depend on publishing companies
to publish their books. But that is not
the case with Salazar.
“I am a self-publisher; I had the opportunity to
publish my book,” he said.
Salazar’s novel was published last year, in
December. “A Través del Misterio a la Cuarta
Dimensión” is now on sale.
Authors are inspired by something or by someone,
which makes their writings successful.
“What inspired me to write this book were the
legends that happened in Laredo and all over in
Hispanic countries,” he said.
The idea of writing a book is not easy to anyone.
It takes time, ideas and literal organization.
“It’s something that has been happening for
20 years. There were conversations with individuals
and readings from throughout the world.
Also, different kind of literature from many
countries,” he said.
Salazar explained the expectations about his
book.
“I believe that these supernatural things that
surround all of us give us things to create literature.
My book is written completely in Spanish,
and it deals with events that have happened to
me or somebody that is trustworthy,” Salazar
concluded.
