Seniors celebrate the end with gala dance

It was a night of glitz and glamour
as seniors danced the night
away in the Hollywood-themed
Winter Ball.
The second annual Winter Ball
was held February 24 in the
upstairs ballroom at the Laredo
Center for the Arts.
“The theme was “Hollywood—A
Night with Stars” as suggested by
the senior class,” said English
instructor Diana Martinez, senior
co-sponsor. Social Studies
instructor Matias Arambula is
the other co-sponsor.
The night opened with a welcoming
speech from Senior Class
Secretary Selina Garcia and Jose
Cerda, principal.
There were about 130 students
present at the Winter Ball, and a
large buffet was available to
accommodate all of them, in
addition to the teachers who
attended.
The buffet offered foods like
caviar, peppered turkey, and even
a fountain of punch, among other
goodies.
After some dancing awards
were given out “Academy Awards”
style to the:
* Hardest Working Senior,
Selina Garcia
* Best All-Around, Dee Dee
Gamez
* Best Hair, Marco Sanchez and
Evelyn Gamez
* Best Shoes, Lourdes Martinez
and Ed Herrera
* Best Hollywood Classic Look,
Jorge Negrete and Norma
Arellano
* Best Avant-Garde, Roger
Gonzalez and Lauren Palacios.
This year’s Winter Ball went
according to plan, Martinez said,
and Senior Class sponsors have
started planning for 2008.
“The night was almost perfect. It
will surely by one of my favorite
senior memories,” said Denise
Cisneros, senior piano student.
