Habitat : Tropical rain forest.
Distribution : India : Andaman Islands.
Status : Information deficient.
Amphibians
Studies on the amphibian fauna of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are scanty and
scattered. The pioneer studies made on amphibian fauna of the islands was by Smith (1941).
Subsequently several workers, Cherchi (1954), Sekar (1984), Crombie (1986), Sarkar (1990),
Pillai (1991), Das (1994, 1995 and 1996), Tikader and Das (1995) and Daniels and David
(1996), studied on the amphibian diversity and reproted several new records and new
species for the Islands. But the revisionary work on amphibian fauna of India made by
Chanda (2002) revealed the occurrence of 17 species of amphibians from Andaman and
Nicobar Islands. Of which, 6 species (35%) are endemic.
