The pioneering studies made on the mei<strong>of</strong>auna <strong>of</strong> the isl<strong>and</strong>s by Wells <strong>and</strong><br />

Rao(1987), Rao (1993), Rao (1975) are noteworthy <strong>and</strong> revealed the occurrence <strong>of</strong> endmenic<br />

species comprising 49 species <strong>of</strong> copepods, 2 species <strong>of</strong> isopods, one species <strong>of</strong> nudibranch,<br />

2 species <strong>of</strong> hydrozoans, 4 species <strong>of</strong> gastrotricha, one species <strong>of</strong> polychaete.<br />
