The studies on the termite fauna <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Bay</strong> isl<strong>and</strong>s are very scanty. Geeta Bose (1980)<br />
reported 19 species from the isl<strong>and</strong>s. About 38 species belonging to 12 genera under 3<br />
families are reported from <strong>Andaman</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Nicobar</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s. Of these, 26 species are recorded<br />
from <strong>Andaman</strong>s <strong>and</strong> 22 species are known from <strong>Nicobar</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> 21 species are<br />
considered endemic to the isl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
