3. Progression of letter evolution - By following the<br />

progression of each letters evolutionary process we see<br />

some common changes in the letters. For example, most<br />

of the pictographs were oriented in a horizontal position,<br />

but around 1000 BCE they shifted to a vertical orientation.<br />

This can help to fill in missing evolutionary changes.<br />

4. <strong>Ancient</strong> <strong>Hebrew</strong> culture - The <strong>Ancient</strong> <strong>Hebrew</strong><br />

language is very closely related to their lifestyle. Many<br />

times the <strong>Hebrew</strong> culture will reveal the meaning of the<br />

picture. For example, the pictograph is named "beyt",<br />

meaning house. The connection between the pictograph<br />

<strong>and</strong> name is lost without knowledge of the <strong>Ancient</strong> houses<br />

made of tents, as the pictograph is a perfect representation<br />

of the floor plan of the tent.<br />

Name<br />

Just as the pictograph of a letter evolves over time, the<br />

names of the letter occasionally evolve or on rare<br />

occasion replaced. The name of the pictograph is peh<br />

<strong>and</strong> is also the <strong>Hebrew</strong> word for "mouth".<br />

1. Pictograph - What the pictograph represents is the first<br />

clue to what the name of the letter is. For example, the<br />

letter is an eye. The <strong>Hebrew</strong> word for an eye is !y[<br />

(ayin) <strong>and</strong> is the Modern name for this letter.<br />

2. Original <strong>Hebrew</strong> language - As will be demonstrated<br />

later, the original <strong>Hebrew</strong> language consisted of Parent<br />

<strong>and</strong> Child Roots while many of the three-letter roots,<br />

called adopted roots, were formed at a later time. From<br />

this we can conclude that any letter, whose Modern name<br />
