The Modern <strong>Hebrew</strong> script has remained very similar to<br />

the <strong>Hebrew</strong> of the first century BCE (fig. 11).<br />

While the majority of the <strong>Hebrew</strong> texts of the first century<br />

BCE <strong>and</strong> into the first century CE were written in the<br />

Aramaic script, the <strong>Ancient</strong> <strong>Hebrew</strong> pictographic script<br />

was not lost <strong>and</strong> was still used on occasion. The coins of<br />

this era used the <strong>Ancient</strong> pictographic <strong>Hebrew</strong> script as<br />

well as some scrolls such as those found in the Dead Sea<br />

caves (fig. 12).<br />
