The Modern Hebrew script has remained very similar to
the Hebrew of the first century BCE (fig. 11).

While the majority of the Hebrew texts of the first century
BCE and into the first century CE were written in the
Aramaic script, the Ancient Hebrew pictographic script
was not lost and was still used on occasion. The coins of
this era used the Ancient pictographic Hebrew script as
well as some scrolls such as those found in the Dead Sea
caves (fig. 12).
