Abstract
GENERA OEDOGONIUM AND BULBOCHAETE
(ORDER OEDOGONIALES) OF PESHAWAR VALLEY, PAKISTAN

A total of 50 species of Genus Oedogonium and 5 species of Bulbochaete belonging to
the Order Oedogoniales were recorded from Peshawar Valley, Pakistan.

Introduction
Some work has been done on freshwater algae of Peshawar Valley. It includes Sarim &
Ayaz (2000), Nawaz & Sarim (2004), Zaman & Sarim (2005), Sarim & Zaman (2005) and Khairun-Nisa
& Sarim (2006). The present report is further contribution to the algal flora of this valley.
Materials and Methods
Collections were made from different localities of River Sardaryab by hand picking,
squeezing and scrapping the aquatic vegetation. The specimens were numbered and preserved in
3% formalin. These were then identified using standard methods (Sarim & Ayaz, 2000; Nawaz &
Sarim, 2004; Zaman & Sarim, 2005).
Results and Discussion
The study reveals that there were 50 species of Genus Oedogonium and 5 species of
Genus Bulbochaete collected from Peshawar valley. The figures have been provided in plates 1 –
