Cobalt rarely occurs in natural water. It is used in the manufacture of alloys to<br />

increase corrosion resistance and strength. It is found in wastewaters as a<br />

corrosion by-product.<br />

APPLICATION: Industrial wastewater.<br />

RANGE: 0.00–2.00 Cobalt<br />

METHOD: PAN (1-2-Pyridylazo-2-Naphthol) forms a greenish<br />

complex with Cobalt (Co +2) at a pH of 5.<br />

SAMPLE Store samples in acid-washed plastic bottles. Adjust pH to<br />

PRESERVATION:<br />

less than 2 with nitric acid. Adjust sample pH to 5 before<br />

testing.<br />

INTERFERENCES: Iron (+2) and high concentrations of heavy metals.<br />
