Relive the excitement of the 2000
Olympics at Sydney Olympic Park
anZ STadium exPlORe TOuR
1 Most of us can only dream of
being an elite athlete but everyone
on this entertaining tour gets to run
down the athletes' tunnel at ANZ
Stadium to the sound of 80,000
people cheering. Even though it's
only a recording, the wall of sound
still makes your legs pump faster.
Away from the sporting field, visitors
can visit restricted athlete areas for
a behind-the-scenes glimpse (and
smell) of the locker rooms before
running out onto the field to claim
victory. Tel: +61 (2) 8765 2300.
This indoor venue hosted the
swimming in 2000 and its Olympic
facilities remain along with a
terrific kids' play area with a
waterslide, rapid river ride and
spurting volcanoes. Grown-ups
will probably prefer the impressive
steam, spa and sauna area. It only
costs AU$3.50 to remember your
favourite Olympic moments at
this historic pool which is widely
regarded as one of the fastest in the
world. Tel: +61 (2) 9752 3666.
Segway TOuR
3 Segways are available for
zippy tours although most visitors
026
have to conquer the urge to speed. After an
orientation session, those on the 30-minute
tour can try their hand at some precision
riding and enjoy a little off-road action. The
90-minute X2 Adventure Plus tour has all the
excitement of an Olympic final with a flat-out
group race and daring forays down a flight of
stairs. Tel: +61 (0)432 163 476.
Bike Ride
4 Or hire a bike and explore the entire 2000
Olympics site at your own pace. Prices start
at AU$15 an hour and there's a free cycle map
available with three different routes. In just
under an hour you'll pass the famous Olympic
cauldron, which has since been turned
into a fountain, and cruise alongside Cathy
Freeman Park before travelling back via the
Sydney Sports Centre which houses the Hall
Explore the Olympics
site by bike
of Champions, a permanent exhibition paying
tribute to some of New South Wales' most
famous athletes. Tel: +61 (2) 9746 1572.
