<strong>RETEC</strong> <strong>Electrolytic</strong> <strong>Cells</strong><br />
Application field<br />
The <strong>RETEC</strong> <strong>Electrolytic</strong> cells have been used<br />
for metal recovery since more than 20 years.<br />
<strong>RETEC</strong> – cells are ideally suited for the<br />
recovery of gold, silver, copper, cadmium and<br />
nickel. The systems are simply designed,<br />
inexpensive and highly efficient.<br />
<strong>RETEC</strong> – cells can be installed for example<br />
next to a rinsing bath in order to reduce<br />
continuously the content of metal ions.<br />
Process Characteristics<br />
The metal ions present in the solution are<br />
reduced and deposited as metal on the<br />
surface of foamed cathodes which are made<br />
either of copper or of nickel.<br />
The cathode offers a very large effective<br />
surface. It enables an effective elimination of<br />
dissolved metal ions, even at a very low<br />
concentration (a few ppms).<br />
When one of the cell cathodes is fully charged<br />
with metal, the metallised cathode may either<br />
be sold for the metal value or used as an<br />
anode in a recycling unit.<br />
The Anodes are available in different qualities<br />
and consist of a titanium mesh covered with a<br />
noble-metal catalyst.

Description of plant<br />
<strong>RETEC</strong> – cells are available in different sizes and can contain from 2 up to 50 cathodes. The systems<br />
are delivered fully equipped with rectifier and easy to install.<br />
The electrolyte is introduced at one end of the cell, passes through the cell and is evacuated through an<br />
overflow at the other end. The dissolved metal in the electrolyte is deposited on the surface of the<br />
cathodes.<br />
Cathodes are available from stock in two different sizes.<br />
Type 1: 18 x 23 cm, Type 2: 46 x 38 cm, each in Cu and Ni version<br />
For pilot testing, <strong>Gütling</strong> provides the customers with rental units which allow checking of system<br />
functionality and efficiency.<br />
