Schedule<br />
• On Friday school ends <strong>at</strong> 3:15.<br />
• Weekend assembly is <strong>at</strong> 4:00, this is<br />
where you go and sign up for activities<br />
th<strong>at</strong> take place over the <strong>week</strong>end.<br />
• Prep <strong>at</strong> the <strong>week</strong>end is 6:45 to<br />
8:30,this is where you do your study.<br />
• On S<strong>at</strong>urday & Sunday you get up <strong>at</strong><br />
8:00 and go to breakfast <strong>at</strong> 8:30 in the<br />
dining hall.<br />
• At <strong>week</strong>ends bed time for juniors is<br />
9:15 and for seniors is <strong>at</strong> 10:30.
Art<br />
This takes place in the study area in the Preston Building for the first two sessions of<br />
activities. This relaxing but very enjoyable and pictures done here can be displayed<br />
around the school.<br />
Study<br />
This is can be done through out the day, where students can study quietly and finish<br />
off homework or and study for up coming exams or tests.<br />
Basketball<br />
Basketball takes place in the Weafer Hall for the first two sessions of activities.<br />
This is a fun activity where you can practise and improve skills.<br />
Self defence<br />
This takes place in the assembly hall for the first two sessions of activities.<br />
Self defence is very import for learning to defend your self.<br />
Aerobics<br />
This takes place in the assembly hall. It is fun but a very tiring activity!
Badminton<br />
This takes place in the Weafer Hall. We can play singles or in doubles.<br />
Chess<br />
This is the newest activity where a chess team is being formed to play in competitive<br />
games against other schools.<br />
Library<br />
This is for sixth years where they can study for their leaving cert.
Other <strong>week</strong>end activities<br />
• On Sundays, pupils are permitted to<br />
check their e-mails. Each pupil<br />
spends 40 minutes on the computer,<br />
and they are monitored by a member<br />
of staff.<br />
• Pupils also w<strong>at</strong>ch films on S<strong>at</strong>urdays<br />
<strong>at</strong> 7.15 p.m. and <strong>at</strong> 2.30 p.m. on<br />
Sundays.
Special trips<br />
• At <strong>week</strong>ends, pupils also go on trips<br />
outside of school:<br />
• Liffey Valley is a shopping centre about an<br />
hour away from Wilsons. There are a lot of<br />
shops and a cinema.<br />
• We go to the cinema in Mullingar as well.<br />
We go every second <strong>week</strong>end, on S<strong>at</strong>urday<br />
evenings.<br />
• Sometimes we also get the opportunity to<br />
go to Multyfarnham village on Sunday<br />
mornings.

Life of a boarder in<br />
Wilson’s <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
• Mornings start <strong>at</strong> 7:30am<br />
• Pupils get ready for school and<br />
heads to breakfast<br />
• Pupils then head back to their<br />
dormitories to clean their dorms<br />
before school.
• <strong>School</strong> starts <strong>at</strong> 9:00<br />
sharp with assembly<br />
• After assembly pupils<br />
head straight to class.<br />
• <strong>School</strong> ends <strong>at</strong> 3:55pm<br />
on a Monday , Tuesday<br />
and Thursday. On a<br />
Wednesday school<br />
finishes <strong>at</strong> 2:35pm and<br />
on a Friday <strong>at</strong> 3:15pm<br />
<strong>School</strong> Day
• After school<br />
boarding pupils go<br />
up to the<br />
dormitories to get<br />
changed or collect<br />
sports gear.<br />
• Dorms are locked<br />
<strong>at</strong> 4:15pm and<br />
sports commence<br />
<strong>at</strong> 4:20pm. Sports<br />
finish <strong>at</strong> 5:25pm<br />
and dinner is on <strong>at</strong><br />
5:30pm.<br />
Afternoons
Food<br />
• Dinner consists of me<strong>at</strong> and<br />
garnishes with a dessert. Pupils<br />
then return to their dormitories<br />
to shower after sports or to<br />
relax before prep.
Evenings<br />
• Prep starts <strong>at</strong> 6:45pm sharp and<br />
finishes <strong>at</strong> 8:45pm<br />
• For first, second and third years. For<br />
fourth, fifth and sixth years a second<br />
prep begins <strong>at</strong> 9:00pm and finishes<br />
<strong>at</strong> 10:00pm.<br />
• After prep first, second and third<br />
years have until 9:15pm to socialise.<br />
Fourth, fifth and sixth years have<br />
until 10:30 to socialise with peers.
Bedtime<br />
• Students are expected to be ready in<br />
bed by 11:00pm <strong>at</strong> lights out.<br />
• Mobile phones are collected each<br />
night from pupils and are given back<br />
in the morning. Then the day restarts<br />
all over again for a pupil <strong>at</strong>tending<br />

Daily Routine<br />
• 8.50-9.00 – morning assembly where we are given<br />
the days announcements and prayers are said.<br />
• 9.00-11.00 – we have 3 classes, which are each<br />
forty minutes long.<br />
• 11.00-11.15 we have small break.<br />
• 11.15-1.15 - we have another 3 classes.<br />
• 1.15-1.55 – We have our lunch where we can get hot<br />
lunches in the canteen.
• 1.55-3.55 –we have another 3 classes.<br />
• At 3.55 Our school day ends.<br />
• Our daily classes include subjects; English, Irish,<br />
M<strong>at</strong>hs, Languages; Spanish, German, French,<br />
Science, Religion, Home Economics, Business, Art,<br />
Technical Graphics, Geography, History, Music, P.E
Hockey<br />
Hockey <strong>at</strong> are school is a very popular<br />
sport for all the girls. We have teams<br />
from first year all the way up to sixth<br />
year. Every girl th<strong>at</strong> plays for the<br />
school teams all have their hearts<br />
set for one goal and th<strong>at</strong> is to win<br />
the finals <strong>at</strong> the end of the year.<br />
Games are usually played home or<br />
away depend on the draw.
Rock Climbing<br />
• Wilson’s is one of a few schools in<br />
Ireland th<strong>at</strong> has a climbing wall. It’s<br />
an outdoor activity so we can only<br />
use it when the we<strong>at</strong>her is good<br />
because it gets quite slippy. It has<br />
three to four difficulties going from<br />
easy to very hard. The most<br />
enjoyable part is absailing back<br />
down.
Cricket.<br />
• Cricket is run in the summer<br />
months because it is a fair<br />
we<strong>at</strong>her sport. If it rains or if<br />
the light is bad then a m<strong>at</strong>ch is<br />
often cancelled.
Sports day.<br />
• Sports day is held on the last two<br />
days before school ends. On the<br />
Thursday night there is swimming<br />
races and on the Friday its more to<br />
do with team work for example : mini<br />
Olympics, and the three legged<br />
races. Sports day is an event th<strong>at</strong><br />
both the students and the teachers<br />
enjoy.
Basketball.<br />
• Wilsons has been very<br />
successful in the basketball<br />
over the years. We have won<br />
the all Ireland championship<br />
with both our boys and girls<br />
teams <strong>at</strong> our level.
Interschool show<br />
jumping<br />
• This is a new sport to our<br />
school which we have only had<br />
since November. The last team<br />
th<strong>at</strong> we had was over ten years<br />
ago. In our first outing on the<br />
6th our novice team came in 3rd<br />
place
Rugby<br />
• This is a very popular sport in<br />
our school. Rugby runs all year<br />
round. Wilsons is very<br />
successful in this sport. We<br />
have two rugby pitches. There<br />
is a junior team and a senior<br />
team there is also a first year<br />
team.
Soccer<br />
• Soccer is a popular sport in our<br />
school for boys and girls. There<br />
is training every <strong>week</strong> for this<br />
sport. There are many teams in<br />
our school. This is a very<br />
enjoyable sport for the player<br />
and the coaches.

In Wilson’s there are a number<br />
of non sporting activities,<br />
these include:<br />
•Gaisce Awards<br />
•Deb<strong>at</strong>ing/ Public Speaking<br />
•Choir
Gaisce<br />
Gaisce is also known as The President’s Award<br />
Anybody between the ages of 15 and 25 can take part<br />
There are three awards; bronze, silver and gold<br />
To receive an award you must :<br />
Take part in a sport<br />
Learn a new skill (such as typing or learning a musical instrument)<br />
Involve yourself in your community<br />
Finally you must go on an adventure/ research journey (such as canoeing,<br />
hiking)<br />
If you complete the gold award you are given your award by the President of<br />
Ireland
Deb<strong>at</strong>ing/ Public<br />
Speaking<br />
At Wilson’s <strong>Hospital</strong> <strong>School</strong> any student can get<br />
involved in deb<strong>at</strong>ing.<br />
There are four members on each deb<strong>at</strong>ing team as<br />
well as a chairperson, adjudic<strong>at</strong>ors and timekeepers.<br />
2 students from the school won the Soroptimist Public<br />
Speaking Competition.<br />
Wilson’s is also currently involved in the Concern<br />
N<strong>at</strong>ional Deb<strong>at</strong>es and The Mental Health Awareness<br />
Public Speaking Competition.
Choir<br />
•The Choir is made up mostly of boarders<br />
and some day pupils. They sing in chapel on<br />
Sundays and hold a carol service each year.<br />
•In December the choir sang on RTE, the<br />
n<strong>at</strong>ional television channel.<br />
•The Choir came fourth in a n<strong>at</strong>ional choir<br />
competition last year.
