LESSON 6<br />

FULL PANEL MANOEUVRES – PART 6<br />

This aim of this lesson is to consolidate what has been learned in the previous lesson and to learn to<br />

recover from unusual attitudes.<br />

DEFINITION<br />

More advanced manoeuvres are flown with sole reference to less than the normal complement of flight<br />

instruments.<br />

2. WHAT THE INSTRUCTOR IS TO TEACH (Briefing of 1:00 hr.)<br />

2.1 Aerodynamic factors relating to:<br />

i. Recap on Spiral dives.<br />

ii. Recap on Spinning.<br />

iii. Recap on Incipient spinning.<br />

iv. Recap on the insidious nature of instrument failure.<br />

v. Explain how an aircraft may end up in an unusual attitude.<br />

2.2 Recap on scanning methods:<br />

i. The compass including errors for compass turns.<br />

ii. The method of flying with an altimeter failure.<br />

3. WHY IT IS BEING TAUGHT<br />

To enable the student to recover from unusual attitudes if some of the gyro instrument had failed or<br />

toppled.<br />

i. The student should ask the instructor for “Start<br />

Clearance”. Avionics must be correctly tested.<br />

i. The student will carry out the necessary<br />

instrument checks without prompting.<br />

i. The content of the clearance could include<br />

intermediate altitudes with a number of<br />

heading changes, etc.<br />

i. The student may be allowed to again attempt a<br />

take-off under the hood from about 30 kts<br />

simulating poor visibility.<br />

i. The student should be given the opportunity to<br />

practice limited panel flying.<br />

i. Allow the student to carry out a visual turn onto<br />

North or South using the compass. Point out<br />
