iii. Simulate a cabin and/or electrical fire whilst in flight Cabin smoke or fire:<br />

NOTE: In modern aircraft with the exhaust<br />

outlets situated below the engine and out of sight<br />

of the pilot, it may not be possible to assess<br />

whether the engine fire is an induction or exhaust<br />

fire.<br />

It may then be advisable to use the exhaust fire<br />

extinguishing method which has been detailed<br />

above. However, should an induction fire be<br />

identified, OPEN THE THROTTLE FULLY during<br />

the engine shut down, procedure to use up the<br />

fuel in the carburettor and fuel lines as quickly as<br />

possible.<br />

The above procedures are representative of most<br />

aircraft but the PILOT MUST FOLLOW THE<br />

PROCEDURES DETAILED IN THE<br />

PARTICULAR AIRCRAFT MANUAL.<br />

i. Determine source of smoke.<br />

ii. If electrical:<br />

ELECTRICAL All off<br />

FIRE EXT. Use applicable type<br />

CABIN VENTS Open to remove smoke<br />

ATC PROCEDURE Carry out radio failure<br />

LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE<br />

iii. If not electrical:<br />

FIRE EXT.<br />

CABIN VENTS Open/closed depending<br />

on source and severity<br />

of smoke.<br />

RADIO CALL<br />

LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE<br />
