1. TAKE-OFF INTO WIND<br />

i. Lining up.<br />

Take-off run.<br />

i. Holding point position – safety and surface<br />

wind considerations.<br />

ii. Before takeoff and power checks.<br />

iii. Lookout – approaches and runway clear.<br />

iv. ATC/radio call.<br />

v. Lining up on runway (use max. length<br />

available):<br />

a. Nose wheel/tail wheel straight – apply<br />

wheel brakes.<br />

b. Compass/DI aligned with runway<br />

direction.<br />

c. Reference point to keep straight on.<br />

d. Windsock check (confirms with ATC<br />

wind).<br />

e. Control column position: neutral for<br />

nose wheel aircraft. Full back for tail<br />

wheel aircraft. Ailerons in central<br />

position.<br />

vi. Take-off run:<br />

a. Release wheel brakes.<br />

b. Open throttle smoothly to takeoff power<br />

– check temps and pressures.<br />

c. Keep straight on runway by use of<br />

rudder – anticipate swing.<br />

d. When take-off power set, move control<br />

column to neutral position in tail wheel<br />
