At several stations on the Cumberland Plateau, however, the average frost-free period is just as long as in the lower country farther west. RAINFALL The average annual rainfall in central Tennessee ranges between 48 and 56 inches. It is least in the Nashville Basin and on the lowest part of the Highland Rim plateau, in Stewart and Montgomery Counties and increases irregularly toward the south and east.
