Edward to his Treasurer and chamberlains <strong>of</strong> the Exchequer<br />

<strong>of</strong> Dublin, greeting :—<br />

Whereas, on behalf <strong>of</strong> our beloved in Christ the abbot <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Blessed Mary juxta Dubhn, is shown to us that he by a certain wr<strong>it</strong><br />

heret<strong>of</strong>ore made and given to him by the council <strong>of</strong> the Lord Henry,<br />

former King <strong>of</strong> England, our ancestor, under the seal our said ancestor<br />

then used, by the testimony <strong>of</strong> John F<strong>it</strong>z Galfred, then justiciary <strong>of</strong><br />

our said ancestor;— that he and his predecessors, abbots <strong>of</strong> the said<br />

house, have ever h<strong>it</strong>herto, since the issue <strong>of</strong> the said wr<strong>it</strong>, peace-<br />

ably held I carucate and 14 acres <strong>of</strong> New Castle, county Dublin,<br />

land, w<strong>it</strong>h appurtenances, in<br />

in recompense for damage which a<br />

predecessor <strong>of</strong> his, abbot <strong>of</strong> the said place, sustained by reason <strong>of</strong><br />

the erection <strong>of</strong> our mills juxta our Castle <strong>of</strong> Dublin, then newly built ;<br />

as fully appears according to the record <strong>of</strong> a certain inquis<strong>it</strong>ion held<br />

by mandate <strong>of</strong> our said ancestor, existing in your custody as is said :<br />

And whereas you our said Treasurer and barons <strong>of</strong> Exchequer<br />

— on the ground that such wr<strong>it</strong> issued by our progen<strong>it</strong>ors, former Kings<br />

<strong>of</strong> England, does not remain, and no confirmatory wr<strong>it</strong> by us exists<br />

under our Seal <strong>of</strong> England<br />

—now take the said land anew into<br />

our hand and hold the same, as in our hand, to the no slight loss<br />

and damage <strong>of</strong> the said abbot Wherefore the said abbot ;<br />

pet<strong>it</strong>ions us<br />

to be pleased to make him su<strong>it</strong>able : remedy<br />

We, acting upon the tenor <strong>of</strong> the said wr<strong>it</strong> and inquis<strong>it</strong>ion, and<br />

being willing that justice be done the said abbot in this matter,<br />

charge you to examine the rolls, indentures, and memoranda <strong>of</strong> our<br />

said ancestor and all other business records <strong>of</strong> the like <strong>of</strong> that period<br />

that are under your custody in our treasury as is said ; so that if<br />

<strong>it</strong> happen that matters are thence found to be according to the tenor<br />

<strong>of</strong> the said wr<strong>it</strong> and inquis<strong>it</strong>ion, you shall specifically and expressly<br />

send the same to us, under the seal <strong>of</strong> the Exchequer, w<strong>it</strong>h this wr<strong>it</strong> ;<br />

in order that we may have the same w<strong>it</strong>hin the feast <strong>of</strong> Easter<br />

wherever in England we may be and that we ; may<br />

make such further<br />
